CREST Project "Innovative Computing Technologies for the Society 5.0" Multi-node integrated system for MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing)

Thanks to the recent advance of 5G high bandwidth and low latency wireless communication, a large part of computing in the cloud can be executed with a small data-center provided at each base station. This concept is called MEC(Multi-access Edge Computing). Timing critical processing like factory control, traffic control and electric power computing can be done at such compact data-centers. In order to do it, a dedicated cluster system that can directly accept the request, processing without complicated software, and return the result is necessary. Our project aims to build such a system by using FPGAs and newly developed reconfigurable devices. Our team consists of 5 groups for each layer: Application (Group4), CAD (Group5), System software (Group3), Reconfigurable logic (Group2) and Hardware (Group1). For the first year, we are developing a multi-FPGA system in the photo.
